7 in 10 Americans Favor Charter Schools
August 22, 2014
The charter school movement continues to gain momentum as the poll also showed that the public believe students in charter schools receive a better education than those enrolled in traditional public schools. There are currently more than 6,400 charter schools serving 2.5 million students nationwide.
The poll also revealed that many individuals misunderstand charter schools, thinking of them as similar to private institutions that charge tuition, are religious-based, and admit students based on ability. All of these assertions are untrue of public charter schools.
The National Alliance of Charter Schools, the leading national nonprofit organization committed to advancing the public charter school movement, is working to debunk many myths and misperceptions about charter schools with its "The Truth About Charters" campaign. Please visit their campaign site and help us spread the truth about charter schools.
