CCSA's Senior Special Education Advisor Gina Plate, is the new Chair of the California Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE). Gina assumed her new role on May 1, 2014, after serving as the vice chair. Gina was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the Commission in September 2012.

ACSE is an advisory body that provides recommendations and advice to the Governor, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the State Board of Education, and the California Legislature regarding new or continuing areas of research, program development, and evaluation in California special education.

Under Gina's leadership, the Commission seeks to make a substantial impact on how students with special needs are educated in California. "I am honored to take on this challenge and know that the dedicated members of this Commission can make a lasting impact on all students throughout the state," said Gina.

CCSA is very excited about Gina's new role on the Commission and the ways that it will further advance special education by ensuring that more and a broader range of students with disabilities will have access to quality education attending charter public schools as well as traditional public schools.

Visit the ACSE website for more information about the Commission and details on recent and upcoming meetings.
