July 20, 2012 Does your morning routine including skimming education headlines of multiple publications, flipping through the latest copy of Education Week, checking your Twitter feed for what's trending and scanning multiple newsletters from different education organizations? Check out our guide to some of the top news sources!
Many of us here at CCSA are also voracious readers of education news, and we want to share our resources and tips. Save this link to read our Daily Clips of top news stories about charter schools and education issues in California. We also do a Charter News Round-Up every Friday, and regularly feature news and perspectives on our blog.
And if you want to check out national charter school headlines, read the National Alliance for Public Charter School's "Charter News Daily" on their website, www.publiccharters.org.
Here is a partial list of some of our favorite places to keep up with the news:
We've long been fans of the Educated Guess blog. John Fensterwald and his team recently headed over to EdSource, which is lead by veteran education reporter Louis Freedberg (who was previously at California Watch, another great source of news). Look for lots of great analysis, as well as original reports, on the key trends affecting schools in California.
Another site that focuses on California's education environment is "SI&A Cabinet Report". Daily reports feature top issues from veteran Capitol Bureau Reporter Tom Chorneau, and others.
Education Weekly has a dedicated charter schools reporter, who also produced a blog on both state and national issues. Read Sean Cavanagh's blog "Charters and Choice."
Hechinger Report is a non-profit organization that looks in-depth at national education issues and will be expanding their coverage of California. Their stories run in publications across the country.
Public Education Network - The PEN Weekly Newsblast is a super-comprehensive aggregator of the top weekly stories on public education from across the country.
UCLA Institute for Democracy, Education and Access (UCLA IDEA) sends our daily California education news clips.
There is always a lot of interesting education news out of Los Angeles. Besides the LA Times and the LA Daily news, public radio station KPCC has expanded their coverage significantly with their new Pass / Fail Blog.
There are lots of different education and advocacy organizations that are active in California who we keep up with via their newsletters:
Especially For Teachers
