Last month, KIPP LA Prep students were treated to an exciting visit from actor and musician, Jackson Rathbone. Mr. Rathbone, who is very popular with pre-teens for his role as a werewolf in the feature series hit Twilight, is also involved with music and plays in the band 100 Monkeys. Mr. Rathbone's passion is to support the arts and he has recently joined dozens of distinguished musicians as an honorary board member of Little Kids Rock, a nonprofit organization that aims to bring music education back into underserved schools. KIPP LA Prep was chosen for this exclusive opportunity because of the strong partnership between its music department and Little Kids Rock.

The KIPPsters were thrilled to talk to Mr. Rathbone about his movies, acting career, and musical inspiration. The KIPP LA Prep band and Mr. Rathbone both played a few songs before Little Kids Rock revealed a generous donation of several electric guitars to KIPP LA Prep's music program. In turn, the Prepsters presented Mr. Rathbone with an acoustic guitar signed by the entire class. Needless to say, it was a memorable start to the school year for the KIPPsters!
