March 8, 2011 Are you feeling excited and invigorated due to the many amazing sessions you've attended so far at the 18th Annual California Charter Schools Conference? Are you ready to implement new strategies at your school? Have you reconnected with friends from across the state, and built new relationships with people you've only recently met? Good! That's what the conference is all about!
Breakout sessions start bright and early on Wednesday, March 9, at 8:30 a.m. Later that day, the Operations & School Safety Expo will start at 9:45 a.m. in the Exhibit Hall.
The March 9 General Session starts at 10:45 a.m. Highlights include our Leader of the Year Award and the presentation to our two Charter Schools of the Year. Salman Khan, founder of the Khan Academy, will be our keynote speaker. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will also be here to receive the Hart Vision Elected Official of the Year Award.
Our 2nd Annual Parent Summit will bring hundreds of parents to San Diego to strategize about how to advocate for charter schools on the state and local level. Are parents from your school attending?
Part 2 of The Operations & Safety Expo will start at 12:30 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall, followed by our popular Exhibit Hall raffle at 1:30 p.m.
Our bus tour is already full, but you can wait on the standby line to try to get a seat. We will be visiting Urban Discovery Academy, High Tech High and King-Chavez High School.
If you missed seeing Waiting for "Superman" in the theater, this is your chance. We will screen the film in Ballroom 6 at 3:30 p.m. On Thursday we will be hosting a panel discussion about the film during our closing session.
Don't miss your regional meeting at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. We will be serving wine and cheese to our dedicated charter school leaders.
Our Wednesday night party this year is "The Prom." That's right, we are having a prom! The theme is "As Time Goes By." The prom, sponsored by Revolution K12, will be held in the Marina Room at the San Diego Marriot Marquis & Marina. (note the change of venue; we had to change the room to the Marina because so many people want to attend).
Save us a dance, and check the CCSA blog Wednesday night for a sneak peak at conference activities for Thursday, March 10.
