December 3, 2010 This week, applications for the second round of LAUSD's Public School Choice initiative were due to the district, and seven charter schools applied for a total of seven new schools and one focus school. The California Charter Schools Association organized a news conference on Wednesday to show support for the charter schools, and discuss new efforts in this round, including more direct parent organizing and involvement.
All major applicants, including Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools, Aspire Public Schools, Camino Nuevo, Granada Hills Charter High School, Green Dot Public Schools, Partnership to Uplift Communities and Synergy Charter Academy, were present, as well as charter schools parents and students. Media turnout was also phenomenal, and stories were positive as we start PSC 2.0, and follow-through over the next couple of months.
