On Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction:
"CCSA wishes to congratulate Governor-elect Jerry Brown and the new Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson on their wins, and to offer our respect to Meg Whitman and Larry Aceves for well run campaigns."
"Education was a top platform throughout the campaign, and it is our hope that it remains a priority as we transition to a new Administration. Under Governor Schwarzenegger's leadership, charter schools in our state experienced tremendous growth in numbers, achievement, and support. CCSA will work with our Governor-elect Jerry Brown and new Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson to continue that trend, as we aim to increase options to provide parents and students with the choice of a high-quality education for every child in California."
On Local Parcel Tax Measures (Oakland and San Diego):
"The precarious state of our economy and the result of budget negotiations, have financially affected all schools in California, including charter schools. Two school districts had hoped to absorb some of that pain by putting parcel tax measures on their respective ballots."
"Charter leaders worked diligently to gather support for both measures, mobilizing parents and supporters. We are very disappointed in the defeat of both, Oakland Unified's Measure L and San Diego Unified's Proposition J, as they would have generated much needed revenue for public schools, including charter schools, during these very challenging economic times.
"However, our resolve is stronger than ever, as is our commitment to prepare our students for the future. Charter schools will continue to find ways to work collaboratively with our leaders to keep cuts away from the classrooms."
