Demand your Proposition 39 Facility Now
September 7, 2010
Prop. 39 is an initiative passed by the Legislature and California voters in 2000 that requires school districts across the state to provide charter schools with "reasonably equivalent facilities."
To qualify for Prop. 39 facilities for the 2011-12 school year, a charter school must currently provide education to at least 80 in-district students, or the school or proposed school must identify at least 80 in-district students who are meaningfully interested in enrolling in the charter school for the 2011-12 school year.
Every charter school contemplating the need for additional space or new facilities should apply for Prop. 39 space within their District. By doing so, schools are not only demanding fair and equal treatment for their students, they are also placing the District on notice of their current and projected facilities needs, and compelling the District to make every effort possible to fulfill this need.
Applying for Prop. 39 facilities is not only good for individual charter schools, it is also good for the movement.
The deadline for ALL Prop. 39 applications is Monday, November 1, 2010.
In order to assist member schools, CCSA will be providing free workshops and webinars, pro-bono legal reviews for member applications in selected regions, and technical support from CCSA's Help Desk. We will hold a webinar on September 21, as well as in-person workshops on September 23 (Northern California) and September 27 (Southern California). Check the "Events" section of our website later this week for details and to register.
Members should feel free to visit the website to learn more about CCSA facilities resources for more information, contact their regional directors with questions, and look to future editions of the Weekly Member Digest for links to additional resources as they're made available.
