Jed Wallace, President and CEO of the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA), released the following statement today applauding the winners of National Blue Ribbon Awards, which include five California charter schools.
"We are very proud of our charter schools, and the tremendous work they're doing. Their commitment to their students' education and academic achievement is an example to follow. "Charter schools in every community are filling a void in public education by giving parents and students the choice to pursue a high-quality education regardless of where they live, or their socio-economic background. As our numbers grow, we continue to see dramatic increases in achievement across the board, and we encourage our charters to continue their good work."
The 2010 National Blue Ribbon charter schools in California are:
- Synergy Charter Academy in LAUSD
- Hawthorne Math and Science Academy in LAUSD
- Aspire-Capitol Heights Academy in Sacramento City Unified
- Preuss School in San Diego Unified
- KIPP Heartwood Academy in Alum Rock Union Elementary District
The Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes elementary and secondary schools that have demonstrated dramatic gains in student achievement while serving an economically disadvantaged population of students.
California's 2010 National Blue Ribbon Schools will be honored on November 15-16 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
