"Today's vote in support of the proposed national Common Core Standards Initiative is a step in the right direction for education reform. The academic bar for all students in the nation will be raised, creating a system of equality and comparability that will move us closer to eliminating the achievement gap that persists in so many public schools.
"Charter schools in California already measure students' success on their individual skills and abilities, and our teachers work closely with students to ensure they meet minimum academic standards
"California has some of the highest academic standards in the country, and these standards will raise accountability in our classrooms, and guarantee that we, as a state, remain competitive and are better able to prepare our kids for future challenges.
"We commend the committee's hard work on this very important education issue, and look forward to working with the Administration and the State Board of Education on implementation of these standards."
