Widely considered to be the fastest growing region in the state for high quality charter schools, the Inland Empire region includes more than 40 schools in Riverside, San Bernardino, Inyo and Mono Counties. Charter schools operate all types of programs including dual immersion, S.T.E.M, performing arts, independent study, career academies, and much more.
Recent accomplishment by charter schools and their students and staff in the region include:
- Sixth Street Prep received a 2010-11 Title I Academic Achievement Award. To meet the criteria for this distinction, the school must demonstrate that all students are making significant progress toward proficiency on California's academic content standards and the school's socioeconomically disadvantaged students must have doubled the achievement targets set for them for two consecutive years.
- Unit CA-20068 at the Academy for Academic Excellence was selected as one of 76 units to receive the 2009-2010 Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit with Merit Award. This award recognizes Air Force Junior ROTC units that have performed above and beyond normal expectations, and that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the Air Force Junior ROTC mission of producing better citizens for America.
- Seventh grade students at Lewis Center's Academy for Academic Excellence (AAE) placed first, and eight grade students placed fourth, in San Bernadino's Academic Pentathlon. Additionally, AAE student Alyssa Yosten took home individual first place medals in all categories. The competition is a rigorous academic event that tests middle school students in five categories: Science, Math, Essay, Literature, and a Super Quiz in Social Science.
