Los Angeles region schools offer a variety of education options to families, featuring schools that offer college preparatory curricula, schools with programs emphasizing math, science or the performing arts and schools that prioritize personalization of the learning experience through site based and distance learning programs--just to name a few. The region is made up of four counties.

Recent accomplishment by charter schools and their students and staff in the region include:
- Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, Wilder's Preparatory Academy Charter, Aspire Antonio Maria Lugo Academy, Bright Star Secondary Charter Academy, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, Dr. Olga Mohan High, Gertz-Ressler Academy High, and Renaissance Arts Academy received the 2010-11 Title I Academic Achievement Award. To meet the criteria for this distinction, the school must demonstrate that all students are making significant progress toward proficiency on California's academic content standards and the school's socioeconomically disadvantaged students must have doubled the achievement targets set for them for two consecutive years.
- Bright Star Secondary Charter Academy, Granada Hills Charter High, ICEF Vista Middle Academy, KIPP Los Angeles College Preparatory, Port of Los Angeles High, and Pacific Collegiate Charter were named 2011 California Distinguished Schools.
- Jessica Davis, a science teacher at the Film and Theatre Arts Charter High School, was awarded the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence for her innovative teaching methods.
- Camino Nuevo Charter Academy - Harvard Site in Los Angeles was named a 2011 EPIC Award-Winning Charter School. The school was one of four in the country recognized for making dramatic gains in student achievement based on a value-added analysis completed by Mathematica Policy Research.
- Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education (CAPE) was one of 27 schools across the nation selected to participate in the K-12 Web Archiving Program sponsored by the Library of Congress, the Internet Archive and California Digital Library.
- Gabriella Charter School was the 2011 recipient of a prestigious Music Center Bravo Award in recognition of the depth and quality of the school's multi-faceted dance program.
- The California Workforce Association awarded Shomari Patterson, a senior at Vista Real Charter School, with the Dwight Brydie Scholarship at its 12th Annual Youth Conference.
- Da Vinci Science charter school won an award from the American Society of Engineering Education for its collaboration with aerospace defense company Northrop Grumman.
- Hawthorne Math and Science Academy and Synergy Charter Academy were named 2010 Blue Ribbon Schools. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools whose students achieve at very high levels or have made significant progress and helped close gaps in achievement especially among disadvantaged and minority students.
