Peri Lynn Turnbull joined CCSA in August 2009 as the Senior Vice President of Communications. As a member of CCSA's Executive Team, she leads the team responsible for internal, external and online communications, media relations, video, social media, and website as well as the team responsible for providing technical assistance and training to members and developers.
From August 2007 to August 2009 she held the position of Chief Information Officer for the Fresno Unified School District. She was responsible for leading the development of the district's plan for integrating communications and stakeholder engagement initiatives including community relations, family involvement and constituent services. She led the team responsible for all internal and external communication, the Community and Family Engagement Network, Constituent Services, Board Services as well as the Superintendent's Office.
From August 2005 to May 2007, she held the position of Director of Development and Communications for the American Red Cross, San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter. She led the team responsible for fundraising, products and services revenue generation as well as for implementing strategic plans for internal and external communications, community relations, special events, and public affairs. She also led the team responsible for implementing programs and services in Imperial County.
From July 2002 to July 2005, Peri Lynn held the position of Director of Communications for San Diego City Schools, the second largest urban public school district in California. She was responsible for leading the district's strategic internal & external communications, crisis communications, media relations, translation & interpretation services, web services, video/photography & televising services, creative services and special events. She joined the district in July 2001, to assist with improving communications and outreach.
Prior to this, she was Principal of Turnbull Consulting and worked with North American companies to develop effective corporate citizenship and reputation management strategies and was co-Program Manager of The Conference Board of Canada's national Corporate Image and Global Ethics Conferences. From 1995 to 1999, as a Research Associate with The Conference Board of Canada, she specialized in the development of strategic corporate citizenship programs, managed networking councils for corporate community investment professionals and led communications and marketing efforts for her program areas. From 1993 to 1995, Peri Lynn worked in the non-profit sector, directing the operations of an arts organization and formulating promotional activities for the arts. She also taught economics at a business college. From 1987 to 1992, she held a variety of positions with Federal Cabinet Ministers at the departments of Environment, Treasury Board and International Trade, including Chief of Administration to the Minister of the Environment.
A commitment to the community has been demonstrated through volunteer work with organizations such as the United Way, Girl Guides, and Multiple Sclerosis Society. Peri Lynn holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree from Carleton University and a Masters of Science in Executive Leadership from University of San Diego. She received Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) from the Universal Accreditation Board in 2007. She is the recipient of the San Diego Metropolitan Magazine's 40 Under 40 Award and the YWCA TWIN (Tribute to Women in Industry Award). She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and a 2004 graduate of LEAD San Diego. She lives in San Diego with her spouse Jeffrey Wiemann and their four children.
